“Shhh! It’s your guy’s party but he doesn’t know it. It’s a surprise so please don’t blow it!”

It’s because you LOVE HIS SMILE. He makes your coffee EVERY MORNING. He INSPIRES YOU to be your best self everyday. He CHEERS YOU ON in your accomplishments. It’s because even though he throws his clothes on the floor and expects you to be the “kitchen fairy”, YOU’RE A TEAM and YOU LOVE EACH OTHER. Whatever the reason, throwing a surprise party for your guy is extra special, a little time-consuming, but super fun!

This month, we are featuring the surprise party celebrating our own Cuisinista blogger Tonya’s husband Chris and his big 4-0! It already happened so don’t worry, we aren’t “blowing it”. Is your guys birthday coming up? You’re invited throw a surprise bash too!!! Let’s get started.

 To Do List:

1) Set the Date and Time: Setting the date of the surprise party before the real birthday helps lower suspicion. Be sure to give yourself at least 3-4 weeks to help prevent things from getting messed up! Chris’s surprise party went off without a hitch. Looks like he was definitely surprised!

2) Choose and book your location: Routine places that your guy visits are ideal locations for a surprise party because it minimizes the complication of trying to get them to go somewhere. Home, the golf course, and your favorite Friday night restaurant are great places. Hosting Chris’s party at home was the perfect choice for them and allowed them to relax in their own backyard with cocktails and cigars throughout the evening.

3) Decide on a theme or general style and color scheme: Think of what the guest of honor would be most comfortable with. Encourage guests to wear similar attire to that of the “surprisee”. Tonya’s “Vintage Dude” theme is super appropriate for Chris’s general preferences and their home location.

If using a caterer, please your order with your preferred caterer ahead of time ensure they can meet your expectations. In the LA County area? Check out one of The Cuisinistas Club’s preferred caterers – Rosemary Honey Catering for a sweet and savory selection and enter this month’s “Sweets for Spring!” Giveaway for your chance to win 2 Dozen Sweets!.

Also don’t forget to ask people to park out of sight/carpool. Think of dress code. Should the invitation be casual and clever or more formal?
