Food – Beer – Music – Dog – Red, White & Blue
Planning a BBQ for the 4th of July? Great news – The guys are taking over Cuisinistas this month to show you how a real GUYS BBQ is done. Truth is, I’m not sure I really know what a blog really is and my wife Ashley got mad when my first attempt at the overall party plan was only 3 lines. So here it goes (again) from this guys POV.
At one point she asked me what kind of flowers I would have. Huh? A guys bbq means usa themed music, beer, guys grilling, at least one dog, a beach ball, girls in bikinis. Bikinis never hurt a party especially when celebrating our nation’s independence. There will be no top 40 music or little quiche and tart appetizers or desserts. Favors? I only ask people for favors, don’t provide any. However, leftover ribs could work. Ok here’s the plan:
3 weeks to go: Invites and To-Go Boxes
- Call your friends 3 weeks ahead to let them know you’re thinking about having a BBQ. Make sure they are in town.
- Ask them what they want to eat. Maybe get music list ideas.
- Order to-go boxes like the below for favors (left-over ribs of course). Bonus points for patriotic colors and “Red, White, & Brew” on the box.
2 weeks to go: Food and Music
- Decide what you’re cooking – In our case – ribs, chicken, a good and spicy homemade bbq sauce, corn, tomatoes, coronas, limes, margaritas, and water
- Prepare your usa- themed music playlist (no Britney). Gotta have great music all day so people have a few drinks and start to loosen up.
1 week to go: Activities & Patriotic Decor
- Organize pool games and lawn games and/or pickup games on tennis or basketball court
- Gather all your patriotic décor: 4th of july banner, american flags, borrow someone’s dog and put a 4th of july bandana on it
1 day to go: Last Minute Shopping
- Shop for food and drinks
- Get buddies to come morning of to help cook
- Ask people to bring things
Day Of: Wear Your Red, White, & Blue

Lastly, while this is a guys BBQ, you may want to add in some great champagne and a sugary vodka drink like the ‘pool water’ at marquee day club just to mix it up a bit and have everybody in the action.
