Hi Cuisinistas. I’ve got one last major tip to get ya fit-ready for Red, White & Brew – learn to read.

Learn to read labels that is.  Labels of your meats, labels of your rubs, labels of your marinades, etc.  I want you to be wary of the sugars in your marinades, but I really want you to be wary of the sodium in EVERYTHING!   Many of your favorite grilling meats will be loaded with sodium….ahem, sausage cough…  Sodium is the number one culprit in the “bloated effect.”  When your intake of sodium is high, your body will retain water.  This will give you the marshmallow effect; causing you to look puffy in places you may have been thinner.  We don’t want that when we’re sporting a bathing suit now do we!!?  Not to mention consistent excess sodium can lead to issues with blood pressure, and that is the last thing anyone wants!

Keep that eye on the labels.  If your meats already have sodium (like the example above), may be time to pass on adding the sodium loaded rub or sodium laced marinades and use some herbs and spices instead.

Tis’ the season so get them grills ready, friends gathered round and enjoy the weather while it lasts!

Cheers

JP
