“A Chocolate Affair” Wine and Chocolate Party

Love was in the air at our “A Chocolate Affair” wine and chocolate party!  There were about 5 couples that were in heaven trying many different wines from around the world paired with chocolates with varying amounts of cocoa.  I’m no wine connoisseur but I told my fiancé that one of the French wines, the Reserve de La Comtesse, was my absolute fave and a must-get!

What I appreciated the most about the wine tasting is that we paired 7 different wines with altering degrees of cocoa in the chocolate pairing.  We started with white wine, and chocolate with only 31% cocoa and graduated up to the red wines combined with up to 91% cocoa in the dark chocolate category.

Want to know something I learned?  White chocolate is not chocolate.  It does not come from cocoa like milk and dark chocolate does but it is instead made with cocoa butter –so it is part of the chocolate family but technically not chocolate.

While filling our pallets with wine and chocolate chips, we also dipped strawberries, marshmallows and pretzel sticks into a beautifully flowing fountain of chocolate.  Like last time, we all went behind the counter and were able to hand-dip our own marshmallows into the machine of flowing chocolate.  It was so much fun to see the guys do the tap and wiggle dance to remove the excess chocolate.  I was in tears laughing.  Everyone got to hand-write their own chocolate bar and add 9 truffles of their choice to take home and enjoy later.  Also, for every case of wine purchased, you could get one of the wine bottles dipped into chocolate with decoration for a future house gift.  We had a blast!
